Walking is one of the easiest, and cheapest ways to become more active.
A regular brisk walk in the fresh air is not only great for your physical health and fitness levels but can also boost your mood, reduce stress and improve your general wellbeing.
If you’re new to walking or hiking, or coming back to it after a break, the key thing to remember is start gradually and build up slowly. If you haven’t done any exercise for a while, you might want to build up your fitness levels through short walks first.
You don’t have to go on long walks to reap the benefits – walking briskly for just 10 minutes a day can have a positive impact on your physical health, as well as your wellbeing.
Joining a walking group is a great way to motivate yourself keep walking regularly, you’ll be able to socialise and make new friends whilst becoming more active. They also allow you to explore your local area, or to safely venture further afield.
