Meet the volunteers helping others step into better health

Each month, over 78 Co-op Ramblers wellbeing walks take place across Lincolnshire and Newark boosting fitness and helping people connect with others in their community.

These walks wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of volunteer walk leaders like Anita, who turned her own health challenge into a force for good. After struggling with Long Covid and feeling isolated, she worked with Lincoln City Foundation to create the Boultham Park Respiratory Stroll. This gentle, supportive led walk was created specially for people with long-term respiratory conditions. With plenty of benches for rest stops, Boultham Park is the perfect setting for this led walk.

Anita commented:

“I’m really passionate about this group and volunteering because it personally it’s helped me with my own health. I can see how it’s helping a lot of the other walkers as they are becoming more confident, and their health is actually progressing.”

Equally passionate about volunteering is Anita’s fellow walk leader, Barbara. She commented:

“I have always done some element of volunteering all through all through my life so even when I was working it was quite important to me to give something back. The thing about volunteering is that whatever it is you do you always get more back than you give.”
