Fighting Fit

Fighting Fit supports anyone living with or beyond cancer in Lincolnshire. It focuses on low impact exercise designed to help maintain or increase physical activity levels at a pace that suits you and supports you in the fight against and other long term health conditions.

“I truly believe that my experience living with Cancer would be totally different without this.”

Who can join?

Anyone living with or beyond cancer can join our Fighting Fit classes.

Prehabilitation – before start or treatment such as Chemotherapy or Surgery.

Rehabilitation – nearing the end of treatment and looking to build to improve fitness while improving muscle mass that may have been lost as a result of Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy.

“From the very first session, arriving with ‘No Hair’ and a baseball cap, you made me feel like I had a life worth living and fighting for.

Don’t get me wrong – it was tough and I was nervous …what would people think / say and would I meet anyone who understood!

Everyone Understands!”

Chris Duncan from Everyone Active in Gainsborough takes us through his class set up and talks about the various types of movements and exercises that you can expect to see.

What do people gain from it?

Participants enjoy the feeling of participating in exercise alongside the feel-good factor the sessions bring. They enjoy the community it builds and the combined effort in the fight against cancer. Participants can also share experiences and connect with others after the session in designated spaces to enjoy a drink.

The benefits of regular physical activity for people living with cancer include.

  • Reduce risk of cancer recurrence
  • Reduce side effects, fatigue being the main one
  • Prevent physical ability such as muscle wastage
  • Maintain independence
