Walking Top Tips

Walking is one of the easiest ways to fit more activity into your day. Take a look at our tips below to start walking more and gain the most benefits.

Make it Part of Your Day

You don’t have to go on long walks – walking briskly for just 10 minutes a day can have a positive impact on your health, and short periods of walking throughout the day all add up. Think about how you can fit walking into your everyday routine – try walking to work or on the school run or park the car further away from your destination. Why not try taking the stairs instead of the escalator or lift when you’re out shopping. If you’re working from home, make time for a quick walk at lunchtime – not only will you be getting fitter but it might help beat that afternoon slump.

Walk Faster

Did you know to gain the most benefits you need to walk briskly? This means you feel warmer and slightly out of breath.

Set Yourself a Challenge

Using a smart phone app or pedometer to track your steps and set yourself a challenge, can be a great motivator for walking more. The Active 10 app is a great tool for beginners.

Make It Social

Meet up with a friend or family member for a walk and chat in your local park, or green space. Joining a walking group is a great way to meet new people whilst staying active. Find out more about your local Lincolnshire Co-op Health Walks.
