Alford and District Cricket Club – Alford Ladies Cricket Team

We are Alford Ladies Cricket team, one of the squads that form Alford and District Cricket Club based at our ground in Well, just outside Alford. We are a friendly, relaxed and social group who enjoy playing both hardball and softball cricket for fitness and fun. Alford has had a cricket club since 1885, but it wasn’t until 2016 that a ladies team was established and it has become a major part of club life. We are actively looking to attract girls and ladies to the sport, and we give a warm welcome to everyone who comes along to meet us.

In the summer we meet weekly outdoors at our cricket ground which has fantastic facilities, outdoor nets and a mobile net as well as a lovely club house. We train with our coaches to improve fielding, bowling and batting skills. We’re also part of a friendly league and enjoy the fixtures with other ladies teams across Lincolnshire, especially if we win! In the winter we escape the elements and train indoors at John Spendluffe Sports Hall.

Cricket in basic terms is fairly easy to understand making it accessible for new players from day 1. It’s a bat and ball game played between two teams. Each team takes its turn to bat (scoring runs) and bowl (getting the opposition batsmen out). The object of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team. Playing cricket is

Like any sport that’s been around for a while, cricket has its own laws, legend and language but you don’t need to know any of that to join our sessions. And you don’t have to have a desire to learn it all either! Many of our players come along for the social interactions, the camaraderie and enjoyment of the fundamentals of the sport.

Who can join in?

Whatever your age, experience or ambitions there is a place for you in cricket.

Our ladies team is for those aged 13+ but we have All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket sessions for younger girls wanting to experience their first taste of cricket or to continue their cricket journey. You don’t need experience or equipment either, we will coach you and lend you what you need until you decide whether you want to invest in getting your own.

If you would like to begin playing, continue playing, volunteer or just join as a social member, please contact the club directly on Facebook, you’ll get a quick reply!

“The session wasn’t what I expected at all. The ladies were so friendly and although I was a total beginner so had no clue what I was doing on day 1 they were really encouraging and I was surprised at how much progress I made in just that one session”

Why do people love it?

Our ladies love playing cricket for lots of reasons, some the same and some very personal to the individual.

We enjoy the fitness aspect to it, well we enjoy the benefits of it anyway even if we don’t always love it in the moment!

We enjoy the social side of the sessions and the other opportunities we have to meet. For example at the annual fireworks display the club hosts or the legendary Town Sixes Tournament.

But there are so many benefits to being a part of a sports group that can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. The best way to find out what cricket can offer for you is to have a go.

“Playing cricket solves all my problems. I get to be outdoors in the fresh air, run off the stresses of the day and get a workout for mind and body in one session. It’s the highlight of my week”

How do I get involved?

No experience is necessary. We offer free taster sessions as an opportunity to give cricket a go. If you want to give our ladies sessions a try come and meet us at Alford Cricket Club.
