Why try Aquacise?

Alongside being a fun and sociable way to exercise, one of the primary benefits of aquacise is its low-impact nature. The buoyancy of water reduces the stress on joints, making it an excellent option for anyone living with arthritis or joint pain, or those recovering from injury. Water provides natural resistance, meaning movements in water require more effort compared to those on land. This allows you to work out harder and build muscle strength whilst at the same time putting less impact on your body.

The water based classes are also an excellent activity for pregnant women. They can reduce pregnancy related joint aches and pains, improve pregnancy associated swelling due to increased blood flow, and help you feel lighter due to the buoyancy of the water, creating a feeling of weightlessness. If you can’t find a pregnancy specific class, check with the instructor if a aquacise session would be suitable.

What do I need to take part?

You don’t need any special equipment to take part in water based fitness classes – just your swimming costume and towel and a swimming cap if you require one. Also remember to take a bottle of water along with you to keep hydrated.

For most classes you don’t need to be a confident swimmer, as generally sessions take place in the shallow end of the pool, and you can choose to stay near the edge of the pool. You might also be able to use floats to help support you in the water. You can check with the venue before booking.
