Join in the celebrations as the Queen’s Baton Relay comes to Lincolnshire.

Community Celebration at International Bomber Command Centre, Sunday 10 July, 3 – 6pm

Local communities are invited to a special event at the International Bomber Command Centre to celebrate the arrival of the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay to Lincoln on Sunday 10 July

Birmingham are hosting the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay – a journey which brings together and celebrates communities across the Commonwealth during the build-up to the Games. The Queen’s Baton Relay is set to travel the length and breadth of England for a total of 29 days, before culminating at the Opening Ceremony for Birmingham 2022. The East of England is the third stop on the Baton’s journey, and on the 10th July, it will be arriving in Lincoln.

Active Lincolnshire are working with the International Bomber Command Centre to host a free, action-packed community event between 3 – 6pm on 10th July, which will culminate in the arrival of the Queen’s Baton at around 5.15.

The event will feature a variety of family friendly activities to join in with and watch to get everyone into the spirit of the Commonwealth Games. Local community youth groups will be running activities for all ages to get involved with. There will also be an opportunity to try out some of the sports which will be featured at the Birmingham 22 Commonwealth Games, such as Wheelchair Basketball and Lawn Bowls.

Visitors to the event will also be able to enjoy watching a newly commissioned dance piece, inspired by some of the sports featured in the Commonwealth Games. Choreographed by Hub Dance Team the performance will feature 30+ local dancers aged from 8 – 60.

There will also be free guided tours of the International Bomber Command Centre for those wanting to learn more about its history and connections to the Commonwealth (tickets are required for those wanting to visit the exhibitions).

The event will culminate in the arrival of the Queen’s Baton at IBCC, before it moves to LNER Stadium, and then onto Steep Hill and Lincoln Cathedral.

The Baton will move onto Skegness, Boston and Grantham on the 11 July. The schedule of activity for the Baton’s time in Grantham includes a Commonwealth-themed sports event for all ages in Wyndham Park following the Relay organised by Inspire+ along with SKDC.

Batonbearers from across the country, who have been nominated and selected in recognition of their contributions to their local community, will take part in the Relay, each carrying the Baton between events and locations across Lincolnshire.
