Cycle to Work Day is a national celebration of the many benefits of getting around by bike, encouraging people across the UK to swap the car, bus or train for two wheels. Taking place this year on 2 July, the day is a great opportunity to get your bike out and enjoy the benefits of active travel.
Cycling to work can help you save money, improve physical and mental wellbeing, reduce congestion and pollution, and make your daily commute more enjoyable. Even better – it’s a simple way to build more movement into your everyday routine.
Whether you already cycle regularly or you’ve never tried commuting by bike before, Cycle to Work Day is the perfect chance to give it a go.
How to get involved
Taking part is completely free and open to everyone. To join in, all you need to do is:
• Have access to a bike
• Create a free Strava account
• Join the official Cycle to Work Day challenge
• Log a ride between 29 June – 5 July 2026
You don’t need to cycle your whole journey to work either. Riding part of the way, cycling on your lunch break, or heading out for a short ride if you work from home all count too.
Top tips before you ride
If you’re trying cycle commuting for the first time, here are a few simple ways to prepare from Cyclescheme:
Check your bike – make sure your tyres are pumped up and your brakes are working properly.
Plan your route – look for quieter roads or cycle-friendly routes to make your journey more comfortable.
Pack light – take water, a bike lock and anything you might need for the day.
Give yourself extra time – leave a little earlier so you can enjoy the journey without rushing.
Why give it a go?
Cycling is a great way to fit movement into your day while helping the environment and improving your health. Even swapping just one journey can make a real difference.
There are also prizes available for people taking part in the national challenge.
