The Ever Young Club Increases exercise classes for over 50’s

The Ever Young Club have been welcoming Spalding residents of over 50 years of age for the last eight years to help keep them active, supporting their physical and mental wellbeing. This valuable service for older people in the community supports those who are less able, mostly live alone and who come to the group for company and exercise.

When Covid hit the UK, like a lot of other support organisations across the country, the centre shut its doors for 18 months. Upon opening again, the centre received feedback that people were keen to improve their physical activity and keep their minds active again, with a specific request for them to offer more exercise sessions.

With support from Sport England’s Together Fund, distributed in the county through Active Lincolnshire, The Ever Young Club were able to support their members requests and partnered with local business, Embrace Personal Training to deliver a variety of classes including chair yoga and chair Pilates. These classes have been developed to be low impact exercise, and are known to improve posture and balance, increase flexibility, enhance core strength, and are an accessible exercise options for all abilities.

Nikki from Embrace Personal Training and Pilates who delivered the sessions told us,

“It is a pleasure delivering sessions for The Ever Young Club. We do a variety of standing and seated exercise to music using Pilates balls and resistance bands. Our aim is to improve coordination and maintain and improve strength and mobility. The group members especially enjoy the soundtrack we use which is from their younger days”

The Centre welcomed 52 members to the classes that were delivered throughout 2023.

Danielle Parkin, Club Manager at The Ever Young Club has been delighted with the benefits the classes has bought to participants

“We have had so many successes from this project and every member has joined in. One that stands out is a lady who attends each week whose balance is very off and depends a lot on a walker, however each week we have seen an improvement in her from just simple exercises. It is also really refreshing how happy all the members are to join in each week, it has boosted their moods and energy levels, giving them a skip in their step as soon as they hear the music.”
